Terry Lee Loy

Terry Teruko Lee Loy, 84, of Hilo, died Jan. 6 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Gallup, N.M., she was the retired director for the Hawaii Island YWCA, retired teacher and member of Community of Christ, Lower Kawailani Kumiai and the University of Arizona Alumni Association.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Jan. 13 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. Burial follows at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Famiy requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Henry (Pauline Keala) Lee Loy and Leslie (Taryn) Lee Loy, both of Hilo; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard Wagner

Richard “Rick” Lee Wagner, 57, of Keaau, formerly of Honolulu, died Dec. 28 at his residence. Born in Indiana, he was a construction foreman.

Friends may call at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 14 at Hilo Church of the Nazarene for a celebration of life. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Sheri Wagner, of Keaau; son, Kenson Wagner, of Keaau; sister, Rebecca Nakasone, of Keaau; numerous nieces and nephews.

Phyllis Gocke

Phyllis Schleiger Gocke, 89, of Waimea, died Dec. 31 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born May 29, 1922, in Fon du Lac, Wis., she was a retired advertising executive and sales manager for Honolulu Magazine, member of St. James Episcopal Church in Waimea and volunteer with many community service organizations.

Friends may call at 11 a.m. Jan. 14 at St. James Episcopal Church in Waimea for a service. A celebration of life reception follows. Flowers are welcome. Haruo Yamashita

Haruo Yamashita, 93, of Honolulu, formerly of Hilo, died Jan. 3 at Maunalani Nursing Center on Oahu. Born in Glenwood, he retired as a produce farmer, served in the Army 100th Infantry Battalion in World War II and was a member of Kurtistown Jodo Mission.

Friends may call at 11 a.m. Jan. 14 at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home for a noon service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by son, Gary (Rochelle) Yamashita, of Hilo; daughters, Lynne Yamashita and Elsie Yamashita, both of Honolulu; sister, Masako Uchida, of Honolulu; two grandchildren.

Nathan Pulham

Nathan Kaehukai Pulham, 33, of Los Angeles, died Dec. 24 at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital in Hollywood, Calif. Born March 24, 1978, in Pahala, Ka’u, he worked in the health care services industry.

Friends may call at noon Jan. 14 at Nechung Dorje Drayang Ling Temple (The Wood Valley Temple) in Pahala for a 1 p.m. service. Refreshments to follow at the temple.

He is survived by father, Elliot Pulham, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepmother, Cynthia Pulham, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; mother, Donna Vincent, of Makaha, Oahu; brother, William Pulham, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandparents, Floyd (Pauahi) Pulham, of Kiolokaa, Ka’u, Reginald Sunada, of Kaneohe, Oahu; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.


Tadao Sugai

Tadao Sugai, 86, of Honalo, died Jan. 5 at his residence. Born Nov. 9, 1925, in Honalo, he was a mason, macadamia nut and coffee farmer, member of Honalo Kumiai, Daifukuji Soto Mission, Nigata Kenjin Kai, Kona Young Farmers and Farm Bureau of Kona.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Jan. 14 at Daifukuji Soto Mission for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers omitted.

He is survived by wife, Kay Sugai, of Honalo; daughter, Sonya (Harvey) Nakamura, of Honalo; sons, Brian (Ning Wang) Sugai and Neal (Sirinee) Sugai, both of Captain Cook; brothers, James Sugai, of Keauhou Mauka, Fusao Sugai, of Honalo; sisters, Misao (Randy) Yonemori, of Hilo, Yaeko Oda, of Gardena, Calif.; two grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Masakazu Uemura

Masakazu “Masa” Uemura, 88, of Honaunau, died Jan. 5 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Jan. 1, 1924, in Keei, he was a retired maintenance supervisor at Kona Village Resort, worker at Kitaoka Construction and Yamamoto Contractor, stone mason for Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, member of Honaunau Kumiai No. 1 and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keei Ward.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. Jan. 14 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keei Ward for a 3:30 p.m. service. Burial to follow at Honwangji Mission Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

Eugene Pierce

Eugene “Gene” Pierce, 55, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 5 at his residence. Born Feb. 2, 1956, in Fort Knox, Ky., he was an electrician for NELHA, member of Kona Elks Lodge No. 2616, California Elks Lodge, IBEW Local 100, Veterans of Foreign Wars 5057 and a Navy veteran.

Timothy “Tim” Edward Notgrass, 53, of Holualoa, died Dec. 7 at his residence. Born May 7, 1958, in Wahiawa, he was a carpenter for Starbird Construction and Maryl Development.

Roland Caluya

Roland Guillermo Caluya, 69, of Pepeekeo, died Jan. 1 at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 4, 1942, in Piddig, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a field hand for a banana and tomatoes farm.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Jan. 15 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may call again at 8 a.m. Jan. 16 at the mortuary for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at Alae Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

Takeo Nakayama

Takeo “Take” Nakayama, 90, of Mountain View, died Dec. 13 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Mountain View, he was a retired controller for the Hawaii County Finance Department, formerly worked at Suisan, member of Taishoji Soto Mission and a veteran of the Army, Company B, 100th Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team.

Private services were held. Famiy requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Chieko Nakayama, of Mountain View; son, Curtis (Suzanne) Nakayama, of Mountain View; daughter, Eunice Nakayama, of Mountain View; brother, Mitsuo (Betsy) Nakayama, of Honolulu; sister, Shizuno Sadanaga, of Papaikou; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
